A Landmark Collaboration
This June, Africa’s premier documentary festival returns with renewed energy. FAME Week Africa has partnered with the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival to amplify African voices and connect filmmakers with global opportunities.
From 4–14 June 2026, Encounters celebrates its 28th edition, standing as a cornerstone of documentary cinema on the continent. Screenings will unfold across iconic venues, The Labia Theatre in Cape Town, The Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg, and Ster-Kinekor cinemas, bringing powerful stories to diverse audiences.
More Than a Festival
Encounters is not just about films, it’s a catalyst for growth. Beyond screenings, the festival offers:
- Talks, Q&As, and Panels sparking dialogue and critical reflection.
- Masterclasses and Workshops nurturing talent and refining craft.
- Legacy Panels fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across generations.
This dynamic ecosystem equips emerging and established filmmakers with tools to expand their reach, rethink their practice, and strengthen Africa’s documentary landscape.
Why It Matters
Documentary cinema is more than artistic expression, it is a driver of social change. By spotlighting African narratives, Encounters and FAME Week Africa ensure that stories of resilience, identity, and transformation resonate globally.
Building a Common Future
As Createpreneur Africa, we celebrate this partnership as part of a broader movement: African creativity shaping governance, culture, and social inclusion. Each documentary screened is a testament to the continent’s ability to challenge perspectives and spark dialogue that transcends borders.
